Everything To Know About Dental Implants

Dental implants are the perfect solution to replace single or few missing teeth in your mouth. An implant is a titanium stud, acting as a tooth root, surgically placed into your jawbone under your gum line. Once an implant is placed, it becomes a foundation for your artificial teeth or crowns. As dental implants are secured in your jawbone, they remain invisible after the surgery. It improves your appearance as well as tooth functionality.

What are the Benefits of Implants?

  • Dental implants provide stable support for your artificial teeth. Other restorations like dental bridges and crowns are mounted perfectly to implants. Thus, there is no chance of slipping or shifting from their position.
  • When compared to other treatments for missing teeth like dentures, implants are a better solution to opt for. They offer a secure fit and ensure comfort.
  • Implants are also perceived as a leading cosmetic dental procedure using which you can enhance your smile by manifold.
  • Implants improve your bite function and also address jawbone recession.
  • Dental implants are a permanent solution to your problem of missing teeth.
  • Implants are made using titanium, a biocompatible material. This material is safe and doesn’t harm your body.
  • You do not have to deal with the discomfort of removing dentures time and again when you opt for dental implants.

What Does the Procedure Include?

Before the procedure, we will examine your dental health. A dental examination along with X-rays will be carried out to check your overall oral health. To be qualified for this procedure, you need to have enough jawbone. If your jawbone is insufficient, you will have to undergo bone grafting surgery.

For implants, we will make an incision into your jawbone and place the titanium stud. You will be given some healing time. The healing period, also known as osseointegration, allows the implant to fuse well with your remaining jawbone, thus holding the dental crown snugly.

After osseointegration, we will attach an abutment. It acts as an extension of the restoration, thus keeping crowns in place. On the same day, we will take impressions of your teeth to create dental crowns. A temporary crown will be attached to protect the abutment, and the impressions will be sent to the dental lab.

On the final appointment, we will remove the temporary crown and attach permanent ones. The appearance, feel, and function of this restoration is just like your natural teeth.
